In 2007 In Venlo, alongside the river “Maas”, we started the project “Maasboulevard”. An ambitious project in the heart of Venlo in which living and shopping and cultural and recreational activities interwine. On the peninsula “De Weerd”, on the opposite side of the Maasboulevard, a municipal park arises with approximately 9,000 square metres. An elegant bridge, named „de Weerdsprong” and designed by IPV Delft, should connect the vibrant boulevard with the green tranquillity of the city parks in favour of pedestrians and bicyclists. Engineering company LukassenBrokking from Lent was commissioned to execute the constructive calculation for the bridge and also had the opportunity to do the constructive engineering. Because of existing contacts between VIRO and LukassenBrokking and the desire for collaborating in a project, the constructive drawing was transferred to the Department of construction Engineering at VIRO in Arnhem. Under the direction of Lukassen Brokking our concrete draftsman provided the shape and armouring design of this complex concrete bridge in a period of eight weeks. The construction phase started in March 2011.
