Unilever Research in Vlaardingen has developed a concept for a modular universal filling line. VIRO has implemented this into practical application: from the existing concept to a working production line. The object of the modular line is the flexible filling and packaging of food. This allows you to handle experimental products at different locations with the same line. In this project, VIRO supplied all the software from the process flow to the source code. This was based on the application of generic modules created by using a library of software codes. The line consists of five production modules (expandable), a drive and turning module, each with its own independent control and native code. For the handling of the product a robotic arm optimized for the specific tasks has been developed. For this application, the software was developed to run the product handling synchronously with a conveyor belt through a real-time control.
